Live! Indoor Baseball Games for Players Ages 9-12
Live! Indoor Softball Games for Travel Level Girls Ages 12 and Under
Program Objective:
Arena Ball is a unique program reminiscent of pick up sandlot ball played at a park, in someone’s back
yard, etc. when those of us who are adults were once kids. To that end, we have attempted to make the
Arena Ball experience one that accomplishes the following objectives:
-
Competitive Fun! Baseball is a game requiring quick reaction and
sound decision-making skills. Arena Ball is a fast paced game that greatly assists players in
learning the game, responding to game situations and transitioning to next year’s higher age division.
Players enhance their skills under game conditions in a fun, structured and energetic environment!
-
Empower Players to Organize and Coach Themselves. What better
way to learn leadership, organization and communication skills than doing so without adults
intervening? To that end, no coaches or adults are allowed on or near the bench area. Players
organize themselves and rotate positions every inning under the supervision of Sports Barn personnel.
-
Promote Sportsmanship and Respect for Authority (Umpires) and the Game
of Baseball: While the climate and culture in the outside sporting world can be challenging
(and shocking) at times, inside The Sports Barn we believe a healthy environment of fun, encouragement,
respect and proper perspective on sports as an educational vehicle can be created.
Softball: One coach/adult is permitted on the bench area.
Length of Program:
10 weeks. Play begins the third week in October and concludes
the week before Christmas.
Participation:
Baseball: There will be two age divisions for baseball: 9 & 10 and 11 &
12. Participants are expected to attend all games as roster sizes will be
kept to 7 players per team to ensure maximum playing time.
Softball: There will be one 12U division. You may have additional players
on your team roster and designate who will attend each game but only 7 will play at a time.
Due to the speed of the indoor game, we strongly suggest that players be experienced - able
to catch, throw, hit & compete - against travel level competition.
Games:
Each team is guaranteed 8 games. League standings and home run leaders
are posted weekly. Trophies will be awarded to the winning team and
overall home run leader in each age division. Note: a special indoor ball is used.
Schedule:
Games are one day a week and one hour in length. Game times for each team may vary
from week to week. A schedule will be provided the first night of play.
Baseball: Each age division will operate Monday-Friday (5:15, 6:15,
7:15 and 8:15pm start times each night).
Softball: Sunday afternoons (12:00 – 8:00pm). Saturday afternoon
and evening games may be added if needed.
Pitching and Catching:
TSB staff members feed a JUGS pitching machine for all games and also serve as umpire.
Each team has a catcher, however, the catcher will only be responsible for plays at the
plate, not catching pitches from a pitcher.
Uniforms:
Participants receive an Arena Ball t-shirt with their tuition.
Registration:
If you have organized an entire team, include all of the registration forms
in the same envelope along with your team name. Please note the following:
Baseball:
9/10 Division: You must have at least 5 people signed up
to be considered a team. While you may sign up as an individual only,
individual signups will only be added to existing teams of 5 or more. At
this age level there will no longer be teams made up by The Sports Barn
consisting of all players who are individual signups only.
11/12 Division: If you are unable to field a complete team,
or a team of at least 5 players, you must have at least two other teammates
secured to ensure being placed on a team. Follow the same process as if
registering a complete team, being sure to include all partial team player
registration forms together. If you do not have at least two other teammates
but still wish to participate, we still encourage you to register, however, we
cannot guarantee you will be placed on a team. Please note, experience has shown
that teams whose roster is complete at registration deadline are generally more
competitive than those teams whose roster was formed via individual, partial
team signups and subsequent placement by The Sports Barn.
Softball:
12U Division: All players must be part of a complete 7 player
team when registering. There is no individual player registration and subsequent
placement on a team. All players must complete the player registration form.
Registration Deadline:
Baseball: Oct. 14. Play begins Oct. 19, 2009
Softball: Oct. 21. Play begins Oct. 25, 2009
Tuition:
Baseball and softball: $630/team ($90.00/player)
